Whisper Ranch was established in 2003 as a quiet rural community of 46 homes located at the base of Mica and Rincon mountains in the Rincon Valley area of unincorporated south eastern Pima County, AZ.  It is approximately 15 miles due east of the Tucson International airport at an elevation of 3200' MSL.  Homesites in Whisper Ranch are low density and each lot is bordered by natural undisturbed open space, forming wildlife corridors with direct access to the alpine terrain of Saguaro National Park, Rincon Mountain Wilderness Area and Colossal Cave Mountain Park.  The mountain ridges of the Rincon range reach well over 8600 feet and form a right angle, hence the name "Rincon", which means "corner" in Spanish.  The area, fed by the Rincon Creek watershed, has abundant groundwater resources that contributed to a long and vibrant history dating to the early 1800s of mining, ranching, farming and as a major regional railhead and stagecoach stop.  The Rincon Valley retains much of that rural, ranching culture and lifestyle.

The expansive mountain vistas, diverse wildlife and easy access to pristine backcountry wilderness makes the area popular with runners, hikers, climbers, equestrian, mountain and road bicyclists. Javelina, deer, coyotes, bobcat, skunk, quail, cactus wrens, doves, hawks, eagles, owls, vultures, bats, as well as many species of song birds and reptiles are all regularly seen and heard in the open space areas adjacent to Whisper Ranch homes. The area is also a veritable arboretum of Sonoran Desert flora including myriad varieties of succulents and cacti such as saguaro, prickly pear, cholla and barrel plus multiple species of ocotillo, agave, yucca, mesquite, palo verde and other naturally occurring high desert trees and plants.

Due to the combination of higher elevation and much lower levels of development, the area is typically 10 to 15 degrees cooler than metro Tucson in the summer and tends to also have more rainfall, especially in the late summer.  Both of these conditions contribute to the abundance and diversity of both wildlife and plant life seen in Whisper Ranch.
